TANDEM

Project
The “TANDEM” project was developed through a collaboration between the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing and the School of Design at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Architecture. It emerged from research into the interior of FER Building D and its evolving architectural identity. Fieldwork identified the space’s specific qualities, user needs and unrealised potential, leading to the development of a multifunctional furniture system for working, studying, socialising and collaboration.
The system comprises eight elements, with a design language based on the joining of two lines. It includes tables for individual and group work, high stools for activating raised surfaces, a mobile charging station for electronic devices, and modular armchairs and stools for creating flexible areas for rest and socialising. Partitions divide long corridors into functional zones while also providing storage and writing surfaces.
The project demonstrates how spaces originally intended for circulation can be transformed into dynamic student areas supporting study, collaboration, rest and informal interaction.
