Project

The “LU lighting” project explores the relationship between geometry, light and craftsmanship through a modular system. Its spherical form consists of 240 individually laser-cut trapezoidal acrylic elements, manually joined into a self-supporting structure. Rather than concealing its construction, the design incorporates the perforated cross-joints into its visual language, combining the precision of digital production with the character of hand assembly.
Light is treated as a material that shapes space. Passing through layers of transparent acrylic, it creates subtle gradients, reflections and shifting levels of transparency that emphasise the depth of the sphere. The perception of the object changes with movement, distance and surrounding conditions, shifting between a lighting fixture and an atmospheric sculpture.
Reduced to essential geometry, the project reveals construction as a source of spatial identity. “LU” is available in diameters of 60, 80 and 100 centimetres and in white, black or gold acrylic, allowing it to adapt to different architectural contexts.
Reduced to essential geometry, LU functions simultaneously as a lighting fixture and a sculptural object. The dialogue between repetition and variation, precision and craftsmanship, reveals the logic of the construction while simultaneously reinforcing its tactile character. Available in diameters of 60, 80 and 100 cm and in white, black or gold acrylic, LU adapts to various architectural contexts. The design demonstrates how geometry, material and light converge into a singular architectural system, revealing the construction not as a hidden necessity, but as the source of its spatial identity.

Author

Harun Sabljaković and Sabina Filipović are designers whose practice spans architecture, product design and spatial installations. They approach these disciplines as interconnected scales of the same spatial exploration. Grounded in the idea of “total design”, their work examines how geometry, material, structure and light shape spatial experiences through systems that balance precision, adaptability and structural clarity.

They draw inspiration from everyday natural and urban phenomena, transforming observations into concepts that establish new spatial relationships and meanings. Each project begins with research rather than a predetermined form, with concepts emerging through experimentation with geometry, materials, fabrication and assembly.
Combining computational design with manual production, they create architecture and objects that reveal their structural logic. Working between architecture, design and art, they develop a coherent language in which structure, material and light become inseparable elements of spatial experience.
