Tandem - Lucija i Simona

The Eyes Can't Breathe

Project

The publication ”The Eyes Can’t Breathe” emerged from a reflection on visual pollution as an inseparable part of contemporary everyday life. Surrounded by screens, advertisements, notifications and a constant flow of content, people often stop noticing the sheer amount of visual stimuli they are exposed to. The project was inspired by the documentary series Prst u oko, which prompted an exploration of the boundary between visual communication and visual noise.

The publication brings together an academic article, an interview, an authorial essay, a glossary and a visual essay. Each section is designed in a different format, so when first encountered, the pages overlap and create an impression of visual overload. This initial impression is intentional and becomes an integral part of the publication’s message.

As the reader moves through the publication, the experience gradually changes. Minimalist design, an airy layout and generous empty space slow down the reading rhythm and guide the reader from visual noise towards clarity. In this way, the project shows that design can communicate an idea not only through content, but also through the experience of reading itself.

Author

Lucija and Simona are a creative duo working in close tandem. Friends first and creative partners second, they complement one another throughout every stage of the creative process.

Their work is defined by dedication, consistency and responsibility. Although their approaches and ways of thinking differ, they use these differences as a strength within their collaboration. They are ambitious, aware of their abilities and unafraid to question their own ideas.

They rarely settle for the first solution. Instead, they research, question, refine and collaborate until they both reach the same conclusion: “That’s it.” Their way of working reflects the meaning of the word tandem itself: two people working together towards a shared goal.
