Good Luck!

Project

The project “Sretno!” is an author-designed poetry book created as part of the Graphic Tools course in the undergraduate programme Design and Audiovisual Communications at Juraj Dobrila University of Pula. Its title refers to the traditional miners’ greeting used to wish one another a safe return from the pit.

The publication brings together a selection of poems by Suzana Mušković, whose work evokes the everyday lives of Labin’s miners and their families through motifs of labour, darkness and solidarity. The mining heritage of Labin, the poet’s hometown, served as the starting point for the design of the book.

All photographs in the book are original and were created through documenting the remains of mining architecture in the Labin area. Using the double-exposure technique, the project creates layered images that connect real spaces with a sense of memory, transience and collective remembrance.

The graphic design is based on the contrast between the strong display typeface Oswald and the highly readable serif typeface EB Garamond, establishing a balance between industrial aesthetics and poetic content. Special emphasis is placed on the use of black paper, which symbolically refers to coal and the mining environment, becoming an integral part of the narrative rather than merely a printing surface.

The project explores how typography, photography, material and layout can work together to shape a distinctive reading experience and reinterpret local cultural heritage through contemporary graphic design.
