Small Creatures, Big Feelings

Project

The “Small Creatures, Big Feelings” project is a ritual-based packaging system designed to provide support in situations of emotional eating through calm, tactile interaction.

It combines modular packaging, origami-inspired unfolding and short reflective prompts to create a gentle pause of five to ten minutes between an emotional impulse and consumption. Each of the eight mini boxes represents a different emotional state and transforms into a small paper animal, which is then added to a growing “forest” inside the lid of the outer box. Together with small portions of tea or chocolate, the system encourages self-awareness, emotional reflection and more mindful consumption.

The concept extends beyond the physical packaging and is supported by a mobile app that helps users track mood patterns, reflect on their emotions and access calming activities, such as origami-folding videos. The physical product and digital app together form a unified, ongoing support system that helps users recognise emotional patterns over time and respond to them more consciously. In this way, the “Small Creatures, Big Feelings” project redefines packaging as a reflective and behavioural tool rather than merely a functional or commercial object.

Nutsa Sesiashvili works across multimedia art, graphic design, UI/UX and motion design while studying New Media Design at RIT Croatia. The practice focuses on translating conceptual ideas into visual and interactive systems across different media, with an emphasis on narrative, emotion and user experience.

“Small Creatures, Big Feelings” is Sesiashvili’s first exploration of packaging design. It was developed as part of the New Media Design Elements III course at RIT Croatia under the guidance of lecturer and mentor Mija Klemencic. The project examines emotional eating through a ritual-based packaging system that transforms emotional states into small interactive “creatures”. Through tactile interaction and storytelling, it encourages pausing, reflection and more mindful consumption.

The project was selected as a finalist in the international Model Young Package 2026 competition. After passing the first stage of selection, it advanced to the jury’s final evaluation among leading international packaging design proposals.
