The “MementoMori” project originated in 2007 as a personal memorial to the author’s late father. As a graphic engineer and bookbinder, she hand-bound a book in which his friends and acquaintances recorded memories, thoughts and moments by which they remembered him. She later created similar books for family members and friends wishing to preserve memories of their loved ones.

The experience gained from producing individual editions provided insight into the needs of personal farewell ceremonies, the spaces in which they take place and the practical requirements of handling the objects. Following a period of testing, materials, formats and construction details suitable for frequent use and long-term preservation were selected in 2024.

The set comprises an album, a book, a box and an urn. It is intended for recording memories, thoughts and words, as well as preserving photographs and personal objects associated with the deceased. The box provides space for notes and small belongings that accompanied the person through life or during their final farewell.
All elements combine black with birch tones, symbolising hope and new beginnings.
