The project „Koper. Kontrade.” presents the historical urban districts of Koper, a coastal Slovenian city, which have shaped its identity. The contrade were named after their gates, and each district had two gates that defined its spatial and symbolic boundaries. Through an interactive exhibition display, the project presents all eleven contrade of Koper and their role in the city’s historical development.

The exhibition’s visual identity is based on a stylised motif of city gates as the central symbol of the contrade. The structure of the sign is designed to form the number 11, directly referring to the eleven districts featured in the exhibition. The interplay of the sign, typography and the repeated gate motif further emphasises the historical fact that each contrada had two gates, while also strengthening the recognisability of the central visual element.

The colour system, based on shades of blue and beige, is inspired by old maps, the Mediterranean atmosphere and the city’s relationship with the sea.
