At the end of each growing season, tomato farms clear their greenhouses in preparation for the next production cycle. This process leaves behind stems averaging ten metres in length, which are currently largely discarded as waste biomass. At the same time, a significant proportion of fruit and vegetables is wasted, while products continue to be predominantly packaged in plastic.

The “DAJZ” project presents a regenerative solution: packaging made entirely from discarded tomato stems. The material is compostable and contains embedded tomato seeds. After use, it can be mixed with soil and planted in a container, allowing a new tomato plant to grow from the packaging itself.

The packaging would be available seasonally during the tomato-sowing period. Its embedded seeds provide additional functional value, transforming single-use waste into the beginning of a new life cycle. The project therefore combines the use of agricultural residues, a reduction in plastic packaging and a regenerative approach to design.
