Be-for-Sex

Project
The project “Be-for-Sex” is an innovative packaging design that bridges the gap between hygiene and pleasure while addressing the lack of open communication about intimacy among young people. Designed as a single folded sheet, the compact kit opens like a book in two chronological parts: “before” and “after”. It contains all the essentials needed for spontaneous intimate moments, including intimate wipes, lubricant, a condom, and a single-use deodorant stick.
Rather than functioning as a passive container, the packaging acts as an active and supportive element. Through discreet and direct textual prompts, it introduces a calm, non-judgemental pause that encourages self-awareness, personal choice, and reflection after intimacy. The project also includes a digital extension via QR code, which can provide psychological support or educational resources when needed.
Sustainability and functionality are closely intertwined. The packaging is made primarily from recycled cardboard, and its structure resolves the constraints of gravity to keep the contents securely in place. After use, it can be transformed into a discreet waste container. Its vivid, unconventional orange and purple palette, together with a visual aesthetic inspired by corporeality, challenges standard market conventions while placing safety and emotional care at the centre of the user experience.

Author
Ida Mihaica is a final-year New Media Design student at RIT Croatia in Zagreb. Her creative journey began with an interest in film and photography, which shaped her visual language and led her towards visual communication and new media design. She has developed her theoretical knowledge and aesthetic sensibility through extensive involvement in the film industry and cultural sector.
In 2019, she represented the Croatian Film Association on the 13+ youth jury at the Giffoni Experience Film Festival. From 2020 to 2023, she was an active member of Luža, a Dubrovnik-based association dedicated to promoting media culture, and contributed to the organisation of the Dubrovnik Film Festival in 2021 and 2022.
In 2022, she organised event content as part of the European project “Collaborate to Innovate” and served on the feature film jury at the Mediterranean Film Festival Split. By connecting her experience in film with new media design, she seeks to create cohesive visual stories that combine narrative, craftsmanship and play.
