The project “THE SQUARE — An Illustrated Guide to Zagreb’s Main Square” is a graduation project in the form of a publication that visually interprets familiar and lesser-known facts about Zagreb’s central square. It is based on extensive research into the development of the space and its changing significance for the city and the local community.

Documentary information, archival material and residents’ memories are interpreted primarily through collage, using an informal visual language to present the square’s diverse roles and meanings over time. The square is viewed as an active public space whose identity is shaped by the activities, experiences and everyday life of the community.

Informational visualisations allow readers to compare different periods, customs and uses of the space without relying on a conventional sequence of facts. Interactive elements encourage the discovery of educational content while symbolising public participation in shaping shared space.

The project aims to preserve and revitalise the community’s collective memories of the square and connect them with its present-day role. Designed for readers of all ages, the publication presents its content accessibly, regardless of education, ability or involvement in the local community.
