SpiceBoys

Project
The “SpiceBoys” brand uses humour as a tool in premium product design, offering an unexpected approach to an everyday ingredient. It was conceived as a contemporary system that brings together enjoyment, sustainability, environmental awareness and community.
The range includes packs containing one, two or five tubes of individually portioned spices from different culinary traditions. At its core is a set of five Mediterranean spices, from which the system expands into editions inspired by other cuisines and the brand’s wider values.
The product also includes a functional spice holder and seeds for growing selected herbs. Through humour and double meaning, the slogan “Spread your seeds!” connects the brand name with the idea of cultivation, turning sustainability into an active user experience. Humour therefore functions not merely as a communication device, but as a link between the identity, product and values of the brand.
Environmental responsibility is embedded in the choice of materials, the reusable packaging and the planting of the enclosed seeds. Community is encouraged through communication and special editions, while humour gives the premium product an unexpected sense of ease, accessibility and character.

Author
The “SpiceBoys” project was created by Karlo Plantosar as a student project within the Design programme at Algebra Bernays University, under the mentorship of Izvorka Jurić.
The project resulted from research into humour as a tool in premium product design and an exploration of how design can bring together identity, functionality, sustainability and user experience within a coherent and distinctive system.
