The “Lokalno” is a periodical publication conceived as a platform for documenting, preserving and presenting traditional crafts and the anthropology of labour. Each issue focuses on a particular region of Croatia, exploring its local characteristics while responding to the prevailing culture of overproduction, consumerism and rapid consumption. At its centre are people who continue to make things by hand, drawing on patience, experience and knowledge developed over generations.

The first issue focuses on Zagreb. Its research process involved fieldwork in long-established shoemaking, repair and other workshops whose working methods have remained largely unchanged for decades. Through interviews and reportage, the publication examines the position of craftspeople in the contemporary market, the challenges they face and their motivation to continue.

Rather than relying on passive nostalgia, “Lokalno” functions as an engaged documentary record of practices that remain active on the margins of contemporary life. Combining written narratives, photography and graphic design, it highlights the human labour behind material culture and seeks to preserve valuable intangible knowledge before it becomes only a memory.
