The “Sunny-Side Up” project shows how even the simplest motifs can become carriers of emotion, identity and play. Rather than being inspired by food itself, it draws on collective memory, demonstrating that strong design often emerges from a new perspective on what has long been familiar.

The project takes the form of a side table based on one of the most recognisable motifs of everyday life. The relationship between the egg white and the yolk forms the basis of the composition, not as a literal reproduction of food, but as an interpretation of a universally recognisable shape that transcends culture, time and generations.

The character of the object is defined by the fluidity of its form. A metal surface flows over the supporting structure on all four sides, evoking the natural spreading of egg white. At the centre of the tabletop, a circular opening reveals the yolk – a thermoformed acrylic bowl positioned beneath the surface. The structure is not concealed, but forms an integral part of the whole, reinforcing the sense of lightness and continuous flow. The lower shelf acts as a neutral base that further emphasises the relationship between the yolk and the egg white, strengthening the clarity of the core concept.
