Eight innovative pieces by Chilean designers transform everyday local materials through creative low-tech experiments.

Material Uncommons is an exhibition of eight design pieces developed by young Chilean designers at the Processes and Fabrication Workshop of the Diego Portales University School of Design. The exhibition explores common and unconventional local materials through experimental low-tech processes.

Its common thread is the experimental process, which links origin and materiality: each piece begins with disruptive tests — including air casting, laser cutting, biomaterials made from waste, and artisanal carving — applied to materials such as recycled aluminum, citrus peels, and urban plastic waste. Together, these experiments produce functional hybrid forms that reveal their shared potential.
