“STITCHED PIXELS” begins with a simple observation: the traditional cross-stitch and the digital pixel share the same modular language. Despite centuries and differing technologies, both construct complex compositions through the repetition of simple geometric units.

The project stems from the study of traditional Croatian cross-stitch, where intricate patterns are formed stitch by stitch on a structured grid. Instead of reproducing these motifs, the installation extracts their fundamental geometry, revealing how traditional embroidery anticipated the modular logic of the digital pixel.

This shared principle becomes the foundation of the installation. The embroidered stitch is reinterpreted as a series of stretched architectural pixels – elongated, transparent modules assembled within a lightweight wooden structure. Neither traditional stitches nor conventional square pixels, these elements form a new architectural language between craft and technology.

As daylight passes through the coloured modules, shifting layers of light and shadow transform the space, inviting visitors to experience the pattern instead of merely observing it.

“STITCHED PIXELS” proposes that heritage is not something to be preserved unchanged, but rather something that can evolve through contemporary design. By fusing the modular logic of Croatian embroidery with the visual language of the digital pixel, the installation creates a bridge between analogue skill and digital culture.

Here, pixels no longer exist on a screen, but become physical, inhabitable elements that reconnect digital logic with the tactile language of traditional craftsmanship.
