“Deposit” by Matija Pogorilić and Luka Šimunović is a participatory installation in which individual choices are gradually transformed into a collective architectural body. At the entrance, visitors randomly select from a range of aggregates, guided only by their immediate qualities such as colour, texture and density, without knowing how their choice will affect the final form. A measured amount of the selected material is then added to a shared mixture.

The material is transferred into the garden, mixed and manually pumped into an elevated tank through a simple, low-tech system. From there, the cement- and plaster-like mixture is released across an eight-metre-long suspended textile surface, where it flows, drips, dries and gradually accumulates in sedimentary layers. Collection and discharge can occur simultaneously or with a delay, transforming the installation into a system of deferred collective production.

The textile records visitors’ choices, material proportions, human effort and atmospheric conditions. Sun, rain, wind, temperature and gravity become active participants in the process. The surface functions as a physical data visualisation in which information is embodied through weight, colour, patina, texture and deformation: participation becomes sediment, preference becomes matter, and atmosphere becomes form.

At the end of the process, the petrified textile is removed, cut, folded and assembled into a freestanding architectural shell. What begins as a series of individual decisions returns as a collective spatial object – data becomes matter, matter becomes object, and object becomes space.
