“ALU Bricks / from the ‘Taking Over the Landscape’ series” presents three bricks taken from buildings belonging to the Academy of Fine Arts. Two were collected during the renovation of the buildings at Ilica and Slava Raškaj, while the third was taken during the demolition of the building at the Zagorska–Selska site.

The act of taking these fragments was initially spontaneous and sentimental, emerging from the artist’s personal connection to the spaces inhabited during their studies. Over time, this gesture developed into a broader investigation and a form of urban archaeology focused on collecting architectural fragments and reconsidering their meaning.

The project asks what truly constitutes the identity of a building: its architectural design, appearance, function, the people who inhabit it, or the material from which it is made? The exhibited bricks are simultaneously fragments, basic building units and carriers of the memory of the spaces from which they originate. Their connection to the Academy is further reinforced by being presented within the very institutional context whose history they materially embody.

The three bricks are accompanied by a series of small-format photographs documenting the sites at the moment the fragments were taken, reconnecting each physical object with its original urban context.
