Gablet

Project
The project “Gablet” explores eating outside the home, specifically outside spaces intentionally designed for meals. It is inspired by observing how students at the School of Design eat within faculty spaces — on stairs, in corridors, classrooms and other transitional areas — turning a meal into a rushed and uncomfortable ritual, even though it should be calming and unhurried.
The object “Gablet” is designed to create a personal space within public space and to emphasise the importance of meals within the accelerated rhythm of everyday life. It can be used individually, with one person placing it between their legs, or in pairs, with two people holding it together between their knees.
