Program
The School of Applied Arts and Design Zagreb was founded in 1882 as the Royal National School of Crafts. At the time, the curriculum focused on artistic crafts, a field that corresponded to what would later develop into applied arts and, in part, contemporary design.
Over its 144 years of activity, the School has changed its name several times while maintaining continuity in artistic and vocational education. Throughout its history, its teachers and students also contributed to the establishment of several other important educational institutions in Zagreb, including the Academy of Fine Arts, the Faculty of Architecture, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and the School of Construction.
Its long tradition, accompanied by numerous internal reforms, has enabled the School to continually adapt to new educational paradigms. Today, it provides an environment in which art education, practical knowledge and contemporary approaches to design come together to foster the creativity of current and future generations.
