Change the picture

Project

The poster “Change the Picture” was created as part of a campaign organised by Philip Morris Bulgaria and the Promeni Kartinkata Foundation to raise awareness of environmental pollution caused by cigarette butts and their harmful effects.

The concept deliberately avoids literal symbols such as cigarettes or prohibition signs. Instead, it combines a human head with a glass ashtray, creating a metaphor for humanity as part of the natural world that it simultaneously seeks to control and pollutes.
The scale of the problem is emphasised by data indicating that a single cigarette filter can take up to 15 years to decompose. Filters gradually break down into microplastics, which enter the soil and waterways and ultimately reach the human body. Around 4.5 trillion cigarette butts are discarded into the environment each year, making them one of the world’s most widespread forms of litter.
